Nothing’s more challenging for teachers than sustaining the interest of the class. #realtalk

Ask any teacher around and it’s highly likely that they have tried their best to make their class lessons a lil extra and a whole lot more engaging for students (read: appreciate ‘em!). And yet, one look at the class and you’ll see half-awake eyes across the room.

To be clear, it’s not that teachers aren’t as effective as they should be. It’s just that, truth be told, different students learn differently. And it’s about time for schools to understand this.

With what seems to be a generation known for relatively short attention span (not to mention, the competing distractions everywhere), taking fun learning srsly should be a #priority! Ever notice the board game cafes popping around town lately? It’s buzzing with students!

When learning is spelled F-U-N, you can count on students to be present! If you haven’t visited one, don’t ya worry! We picked out some fun games that can teach you a lesson or two. G?

If you’re a GAS student: The Game of Life

Number of players: 2-6 players

Estimated play duration: 1 hour

While you’re still undecided and thinking through what career path you’d like to pursue someday, playing The Game of Life might just welp picture out the kind of life you want in the future! This game walks you through different life stages starting from your school life to as far as family life. Though chance plays a big part in the game, it’s still your “decisions” that’ll either get you moving ahead or stuck in life. So go ahead and take risks! Ready to play the game of your life? We bet you are!

If you’re a HUMSS student: Codenames

Number of players: 4-8 players

Estimated play duration: 15-30 minutes

Time to bring out your spy suits and guess the right words in Codenames! Notify the whole squad and form two teams. The goal is to find all your team’s secret words based on the clues given by your Spymaster. Fo’sho, you’ll be able to practice and improve your communication and critical thinking skills at the end of each game. And oh, did we mention you have to avoid the assassin to win the game? Yup, we just did!

If you’re a STEM student: Ticket to Ride

Source: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/92/Ticket_to_Ride_Board_Game_Box_EN.jpg

Number of players: 2-5 players

Estimated play duration: 1-2 hours

Pack your bags and maps because Ticket to Ride will definitely bring you to places! If you’re an aspiring architect or engineer, then this game’s for you. With destination tickets at hand, each player will have to secretly get to those routes by setting their train pieces on the track. With limited train pieces and actions allowed per round, you’ve to be extra smart to find the shortest route around and build efficient bridges and tunnels along the way. Get your hard hat ready!

If you’re an ABM student: 7 Wonders

Source: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7e/7_wonders_board_game_cover.jpg

Number of players: 2-7 players

Estimated play duration: 30 minutes

Don’t worry, there’s no history lesson in here. Just the seven wonders of the ancient world and a whole lot of effective resource management! In this card drafting game, you’ll learn the tricks and trades of ancient civilizations (and how to survive a military conflict!). As the game progresses in stages, you’ll have to prioritize which commercial activity you think will earn you more points. Just think of it as a practice round before you run your business IRL!

Between learning and fun learning, always choose the latter! After all, there isn’t much need for discussion: students learn best when they enjoy themselves. So go ahead, block off your weekend and tag along with your friends for a game night. Hey, we’re excited already!
