Capitol University is a private, non-sectarian school in
Cagayan de Oro City. It was founded in 1971 as the
Cagayan Capitol College and opened with a high school program and courses in Liberal Arts, Commerce, Education, and Secretarial. Two years later, the college offered the first Midwifery course in the region and at the same time established the Maternity Hospital where students can take their practicum in midwifery. Later, the school provided more undergraduate degree courses, like Marine Engineering, Civil Engineering, Forestry, Nursing, and Agricultural Technology; the Graduate School department was also started in 1981. The Cagayan Capitol College became Capitol University in 2003.
At present, the university offers basic and higher education programs. The basic education department has a Senior High School (SHS) program providing the
Academic Track, including a
Maritime strand. College students choose from a variety of degree courses offered under eight academic units, namely:
Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Computer Studies, Criminology, Education, Engineering, Maritime Education, and Nursing and Midwifery. The university also provides doctorate and master's degree programs in its
Graduate School department. Additionally,
certifications and short courses are also available in CU for those who are interested in being assessed and certified for particular skills.
