Kyoto University, founded in 1897 by imperial ordinance, is the second university to be established in
Japan. It was formerly known as Kyoto Imperial University.
The University has 20 combined faculties for
undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the fields of literature, education, law, economics, science, medicine, engineering, agriculture, informatics, government, and management.
Kyoto University has been recognized as one of the top universities worldwide. It is ranked 35th in the
QS World University Rankings and 65th in the
THE World University Rankings.
